Marriage License Information To be married in the state of Alabama, a marriage license is required, and may be obtained from any Alabama county courthouse. You do not have to be a resident of Alabama. A blood test is not required and there is no waiting period. You will need ID - a driver’s license or birth certificate and your Social Security number. Both parties must be physically present when the license is obtained. If divorced, you may need a copy of your divorce decree. You must be 18 years of age. Under age weddings are permitted with parent’s consent. You would have to present a certified copy of your birth certificate. Both parents must be present with identification. There are no same sex marriages in Alabama. There are no proxy marriages. Payment can be made at the courthouse. You must bring cash. Some counties will accept credit cards but most of them do not. The license is good for 30 days. There is no waiting period after receiving your license. You can get married immediately. If you do not bring your license with you to the chapel, your wedding will have to be rescheduled.
